Depending on the island size and the room size you could use 2 large pendants for an eight-foot island or work with 3 small or medium pendants. For a balanced look over a four-foot island 2 small will perform well. With a large island 3 medium pendants or a display of 5 small pendants will make a statement. Two pendants should hang at the same level, 3 or 5 pendants can be hung at varying heights.
You can hang your vintage glass pendants high for overall lighting out of eyesight or drop them down to become an integral feature approximately 30″ above your work surface. Work to the scale of your island and use 1, 2, 3 or 5 for the best lighting and the best style.
Like the look of chandeliers, then look for one that fits your room’s décor and enjoy the simple elegance of dining in delight with one over your table or small island or perhaps 3 small ones over your long island. Looking for a contemporary style, try linear fixture available with incandescent or LED lighting. Some have the added benefit of up lighting for softer ambient lighting.
Remember to use a lighting control to set the mood, from a cozy sharing of a quiet meal, to helping with homework, to preparing for the party.
